Kenya & Tanzania, Camping Cross Boarder Safari: 14 days

Enjoy this 14-days adventure visiting the attractions in Kenya and Tanzania during a camping safari. The tour starts in Kenya with a visit of the Great Rift Valley and the Lake Bogoria National Reserve. At Lake Nakuru National Park you see birds and other big game on a game drive. Our next stop is the Tsavo West National Park with special attractions including Mzima Springs, underwater hippo watching or the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary. We leave Kenya via the Amboseli National Park and cross to Tanzania with cultural visits in the Maasai villages of Longido and Mto wa Mbu. Enjoy game drives in the Ngorongoro Crater to introduce you to the Tanzania’s big game. Finally the hike in the untouched and rarely visited Empakai Crater offers another chance to walk among wildlife.


Day 1:
Depart from Nairobi to Lake Bogoria National Reserve. Lake Bogoria is a beautiful lake on the floor of the Great Rift Valley and is wellknown for its flamingos nesting along the shores. With its steaming hot springs and geysers and a variety of bird and animal species, Lake Bogoria National Reserve is best to explore by foot. There is a good chance to see the rare Greater Kudu. Overnight at Lake Bogoria Hotel.

Day 2:
Drive to Lake Baringo National Park for a boat ride on the lake and bird walk on the shores of the lake to see birdlife as well as crocodiles and hippos. Lake Baringo is one of the two fresh water lakes of the Gregorian Rift valley. With over four hundred species of birdlife the lake is a paradise for ornithologists. Overnight at Lake Bogoria Hotel.

Day 3:
Drive to Lake Nakuru National Park for game drive. Lake Nakuru National Park which is famous for its flamingos nesting along the shores. Millions of flamingoes paint this park with its shimmering pink color. Lake Nakuru is also wellknown for game-viewing including lions, leopard, rhinos, impalas, gazelles, eland, zebra, buffalo, and giraffe. Overnight at Viewpoint Lodge, Lake Elementaita.

Day 4:
Enjoy cultural activities around Lake Elementaita in the morning like Kikuyu homestead visits, school visits and visit of the Kariandusi prehistoric museum. Later in the afternoon drive to Lukenya Campsite on the outskirts on Nairobi. Overnight at Lukenya campsite.

Day 5:
Early transfer to Tsavo West National Park. Enjoy a game drive to see the attractions of Tsavo West National Park including lions, elephants, leopards, giraffes and many other animals. Visit the Mzima springs where you can see crocodiles, hippos and fishes in the crystal clear waters of the spring. Overnight at public campsite in the park.

Day 6:
Enjoy a full day exploring the various attractions of Tsavo West National Park. Overnight at public campsite in the park.

Day 7:
Enjoy an early morning game drive in the Tsavo West National Park. Depart to Amboseli National Park with its backdrop of the snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro and abundant wildlife like large herds of elephants, giraffes, gazelles, lions and leopards. Overnight at public campsite in the park.

Day 8:
Enjoy an early morning game drive in the Amboseli National Park. In the afternoon explore the Amboseli National Park by foot accompanied by Maasai warriors to learn how the Maasai people live in harmony with the wildlife. Overnight at public campsite in the park.

Day 9:
Enjoy an early morning game drive. Depart to Namanga and boarder crossing into Tanzania, visit a Maasai village below the Longido Mountain. Overnight bush camping near the Maasai village. Have dinner under star spattered sky and listen to stories and tales told by Maasai locals.

Day 10:
Trekking day guided by Maasai warriors, after three hours you reach the picturesque Dawa Ya Supu view point. Follow the trails created by buffaloes to reach the top in another two hours climb. The Maasai guides make loud cries to warn buffaloes of the presence. Overnight at public campsite in Lake Manyara National Park.

Day 11:
Drive and trekking day to Ngorongoro Crater, a unique collapsed volcano which is a permanent residence of over 25,000 herbivores and a high density of predatory cats. Enjoy a game drive in the crater with high chances to see elephants, rhinos, zebras, lions, gazelles and wildebeests. In the afternoon drive to Empakaai Crater. Overnight bush camping on the crater rim at an altitude of over 3000 m.

Day 12:
Trekking day into Empakaai Crater, which is much smaller than Ngorongoro Crater, but comparably beautiful. Enjoy a 6 to 7 hours hike in an area which is only rarely visited by other tourists. Drive to Lake Manyara National Park, have a traditional African dinner. Overnight at public campsite in Lake Manyara National Park.

Day 13:
Enjoy a relaxed day with a short morning drive to Mto wa Mbu village, a cultural melting pot for a mix of Tanzanian tribes. Hike into the village to learn about the different economic activities undertaken by the locals. Drive to Arusha for a relaxed evening. Overnight in guest house.

Day 14:
Early morning walk on the shores of Lake Manyara. Arusha city tour and souvenir shopping, end.
